MCC Women kick off fall season with a shutout victory over MassBay
Framingham, MA. (Aug 25) – Sophomore Brittany Finger of Enfield scored three goals and assisted on three others as the MCC Women’s soccer team kicked off the school’s fall sports slate with an 8-0 victory over MassBay CC at Mary Dennison Field in Framingham, MA Monday afternoon.
Finger, who was named Co-Captain along with Nicole Morehouse (Tolland) prior to the game, set up sophomore Chelsea Allen (Newington) on a cross pass from the corner five minutes into the game for the only goal the Cougars would need.
Morehouse started in goal and kept MassBay off the board in the first half before turning the duties over to Kyle Roncailoli (West Hartford) who pitched a shutout over the final 45 minutes.
“It was a good way to start our season,” MCC Coach Alex Calpa said after opening his fourth season with a convincing win on the road. “It was a good opportunity to see where our weaknesses are and where our strengths are. We were also able to plug in people at different positions to see where they feel more comfortable and created a lot of chances at goal and have a lot of space to move the ball.”
Sophomores Amy Griswold (Ellington) and Angeline Chiang (Granby), along with freshmen Betsy Whalen (Avon) and Shelly Muratori (Enfield), each contributed a goal. Chaing also had two assists.
