Governor Rell Announces $1.6 Million for Manchester Community College

Hartford, Conn., (May 20, 2008)…Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that $1,695,765 for a campus improvement project at Manchester Community College is expected to be approved when the State Bond Commission meets May 30, 2008.

The funding provided will be used to demolish and remove the East Campus at Manchester CC, which consists of 13 one story wood framed buildings totaling approximately 80,000 square feet. These World War II-era buildings served as the original home for the college when it opened in 1963.

A new 4,800 square-foot maintenance building will be built in place of these buildings.

“Over the last five years, Manchester’s campus has undergone a significant facelift,” Governor Rell said. “With the opening of the Arts, Sciences and Technology Center in 2003 and the construction of the new maintenance facility we are ushering out the old and modernizing one of Connecticut’s premiere higher education learning institutions for both full and part-time students.”

“For decades, thousands of students came to know and experience their education at Manchester in these old East Campus buildings,” Governor Rell said. “While these buildings served students well for many years, it is important that we continue to invest in our students attending our college campuses, and this investment that will contribute to positive and beneficial learning experiences.”

At present, more than 15,000 students attend Manchester as either full-time or part-time students, pursuing degrees and certificates in more than 90 programs.

Students of any age who possess the desire to pursue higher education are welcome at Manchester Community College. MCC is proud of its academic excellence, new facilities, flexible schedules, small classes, low tuition and faculty with both academic and “real world” credentials. The College offers over 60 programs, transfer options, financial aid and scholarships, as well as access to baccalaureate degrees through guaranteed admissions programs with several universities. MCC is situated on a park-like campus and is easily accessible from I-84.
