MCC Dean Honored for Leadership Initiatives in Inclusion and Accessibility
Manchester, Conn., – (April 24, 2008)… Thomas N. Bavier, dean of administrative affairs at Manchester Community College, was recently named recipient of the first Dr. Jonathan M. Daube Award for Inclusion and Accessibility, presented by the MCC Institute on Disability and Community Inclusion. The award ceremony was part of the Rosemary and Gunnar Dybwad 2008 seminar held in April.

The Dr. Jonathan M. Daube Award for Inclusion and Accessibility was established to honor an outstanding member of the Manchester Community College community that continues the legacy of inclusion and accessibility, demonstrated by Dr. Jonathan M. Daube during his years of leadership as president of MCC.
Bavier of West Hartford was honored for his consistent leadership in building a fully accessible campus by listening to, and respecting the different perspectives of, all people, especially people with disabilities. “Making the campus accessible, and eliminating barriers for all who come to MCC, had been a high priority for me and for the College,” stated Bavier.
Bavier joined MCC in 1973 and held several positions at the College, including counselor, director of contracts and grants, assistant to the president, and associate dean of administrative affairs. In 1984, Bavier was promoted to dean of administrative affairs and is responsible for the College’s budget and finance, facilities development, campus police, building and grounds, and human resources functions.
Bavier holds a master of science degree in higher education counseling from the University of Connecticut, and a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the College of the Holy Cross.
