MCC Faculty Elected Chair of State-Wide Committee

Manchester, CT – (April 24, 2007) . . . Dr. James Gentile, associate professor of English at Manchester Community College, was recently elected chair of the Steering Committee of the state-wide Center for Teaching (CFT).

Gentile, of East Hartford, currently serves as co-chair of the English Department and also serves as co-chair of the Connecticut Coalition of English Teachers (CCET). He has worked extensively with the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium in their online tutoring program. Additionally, he is co-director of the Connecticut Poetry Circuit. Gentile holds a doctorate in American Literature from Columbia University.

The CFT helps to develop and coordinate professional development opportunities for faculty at the twelve community colleges in Connecticut. Among its projects are Pathways for New Faculty, the Spirit of Teaching, the Barnes Seminar and the Schwab Institute for Academic Leadership, which Gentile has chaired for the past two years.
