MCC Professor Awarded for Outstanding Video Production
Manchester, CT – (June 19, 2006) . . . Manchester Community College professor Maura O’Connor, of Avon, teamed up with her student, Ron Dube, of East Hartford, and First Experience Communications in Glastonbury to produce a video that was awarded the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) 2006 Silver Mercury Award of Excellence on June 8 at the Chevrolet Theatre in Wallingford, CT.
The 14-minute video production of Community Health Centers: Connecticut’s Health Safety, features Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell and highlights community health centers in Connecticut and their impact in the community.
The video was among a total of 40 awards given at the eleventh annual Mercury Awards, Connecticut’s premier event recognizing outstanding work in the public relations, communications and marketing professions.
According to PRSA, the Silver Mercury Award recognizes outstanding work in public relations, communications and marketing. These awards honor the creative and strategic excellence of the PR and Marketing profession and encourage a higher level of performance in the field.
O’Connor was approached by First Experience Communications in the fall of 2005 to create a video for Community Health Centers. O’Connor recruited Dube, a video production student, to assist with developing the film. They traveled to over 13 health institutes across Connecticut to gather footage for the video.
In March, O’Connor and Dube also received an award from the Connecticut Primary Care Association for “exemplary community service work in the video production” for their work on creating the video.
The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is an individual membership professional society of more than 20,000 public relations practitioners. The Connecticut Valley Chapter serves Central, Northern and Eastern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts (www.prsa-cvc.org ).
