Local Students Receive Awards for Writing Contest
Manchester, CT – November 29, 2005 . . . Manchester Community College is pleased to announce the winners of its annual Student Writing Contest. Seventeen students will be honored at the Writing Contest Awards Presentation on Friday, December 16 from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. The event is open to the public and will be held in the MCC Library Fireside Commons located inside of the Learning Resource Center building.
The writing contest was open to all MCC students enrolled during the 2004-2005 school year. More than 50 students submitted original writing entries for categories that included: personal essays, expository essays, literary criticism, research paper, short story and poetry. The John R. Gustavson prize will be awarded to a single entry for best humorous writing. In addition, the winning entries in the poetry and short story category will be published in Shapes, MCC’s literary magazine. Excerpts from the winning essays and poems will be read during the awards presentation reception.
