New Staff Joins Manchester Community College

Manchester, CT – (March 3, 2006) . . . Manchester Community College is pleased to announce the following additions to its staff:

Dr. Michael A. Rooke, of Lake Grove, NY, has joined MCC as Academic Division Director for the Center for Business and Technologies. In his role as Academic Division Director, Rooke will be responsible for providing academic leadership for over forty full and part-time faculty and staff members and providing vision and direction for associate degree and certificate program, as well as academic disciplines, including Accounting, Business, Business Office Technology, Finance, Paralegal, Computer Science/Technology, Engineering Science and Manufacturing Engineering/Industrial Technology.

Prior to joining MCC, Rooke was the Director of Information Technology for Long Island University-C.W. Post Campus, in Brookville, NY, and was also an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Hartford in West Hartford. Rooke has also published numerous papers and articles on science and technology.

Rooke is a graduate of Kansas State University with a Ph.D. in Chemistry and holds a bachelor of science degree in Applied Chemistry from Nottingham Trent University in Nottingham, UK. He is in the final year of a master of science degree in Educational Technology at Long Island University and will complete this degree program in June 2006.

Anita Sparrow, of Middletown, has been hired as Assistant Registrar at MCC. In her new role, Sparrow is responsible for contributing to the accuracy, reliability, timeliness, reporting and security of information about academic achievement of the College’s students. She will also maintain student records and the reporting of student information.

Sparrow was formerly the Assistant Registrar for Charter Oak State College and employed as an Assistant Registrar and Degree Auditor at Central Connecticut State University. Sparrow is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor of science degree in Sociology.

Joseph J. Fairchild, of Thomaston, is the college’s new Instructor of Criminal Justice in the Social Science and Hospitality Division. MCC’s Criminal Justice program is designed for students who want to obtain knowledge in forensic science, law enforcement or pre-service correction. Fairchild will be responsible for preparing course materials, syllabi and instruction outlines, advising students and assessing student progress, and participating on college committees.

The majority of Fairchild’s career was spent in the field of law, most recently as an adjunct instructor in the Division of Justice and Law Administration at Western Connecticut State University. In addition, he was employed as a judge of probate for the State of Connecticut, District of Thomaston, and a former licensed attorney in private practice. He also worked as a police officer for the State of Connecticut.

Fairchild has a juris doctor degree from the University of Bridgeport, School of Law, and holds a bachelor of science degree in Justice and Law Administration from Western Connecticut State University. He also received an associate of science degree in Criminal Justice from Mattatuck Community College.

Theresa Janeczek, of Monroe, joined MCC as Instructor of Business in the Center for Business and Technologies Division. Janeczek is the owner of Solutions Unlimited, a consulting service providing business and marketing strategies for small businesses, consumers and nonprofit organizations. She also taught business courses at Orange County Community College, SUNY Orange in Middletown, NY.

In this new role at MCC, Janeczek will be responsible for preparing business course materials, syllabi and instruction outlines, advising students and assessing student progress, and participating on college committees.

A graduate of the University of Hartford with a masters in Business Administration, Janeczek also holds a bachelor of arts degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Business Management. She is a member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society and a member of the executive board for the Women of Monroe Area.
