MCC Offers Custom Workforce Development Courses as State Reopens Following COVID-19 Shutdowns
MANCHESTER, Conn. (June 2, 2020) – As Connecticut begins to reopen, businesses, non-profits and other organizations that shut down because of COVID-19 will need workforce training for employees returning to work and those newly hired for the ramp-up. Manchester Community College is positioned to offer custom workforce development courses starting as early as this summer.
The custom courses, offered through the college’s Corporate and Community Training Center (CCTC), are designed to be delivered in an online format, with rollout of hybrid versions in which some online content mixes with hands-on training in COVID-19 compliant classrooms and labs as the fall term approaches.
The CCTC’s benefit is depth and breadth of offerings as well as flexibility. “We offer organizations a buffet of workforce development options to help them tailor training to their specific needs as they come back from shutdown,” Mick Pigott, MCC’s director of business and industry services, said. “Choose from existing courses, or let us know your specific needs, and we’ll design curriculum specifically for what you need.”
The college has invested in technology to provide full online teaching by faculty who are practitioners in their fields. “At this point, organizations need to provide some kind of training to nearly every employee, new and continuing, so they can operate profitably in the emerging post-lockdown economy,” Pigott said. “The CCTC is a one-stop source.”
He added, “CCTC custom courses can address needs in allied health, manufacturing, computer and office skills, security, safety and more, from the college’s full catalog of disciplines. We can provide much of the training that employers need to sharpen their teams’ expertise.”
