New Staff Joins Manchester Community College

Manchester, CT – (June 16, 2010) . . . Manchester Community College is pleased to announce the following additions to its staff:

Trent (T.J.) Barber, of Wethersfield, has joined MCC as the Director of Student Activities in the college’s Student Affairs division. In his new role, Barber will be responsible for developing, designing and implementing a range of services to promote the social, cultural, fitness and recreational needs of students at MCC. Additionally, he will advise the student government and other student organizations, support co-curricular and community-service activities, and assess the social, cultural and recreational needs of students.

Prior to joining MCC, Barber was the associate director of campus life, and an assistant director for operations at Trinity College in Hartford. He was also a member of the Association of College Unions International Region One Leadership Team. Barber holds a master of science degree in educational leadership from Central Connecticut State University and a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Carolina Flores, of Meriden, has joined MCC as an instructor of music in the college’s Liberal Arts division. Flores formerly taught music at the Hartt School of Music and directed its women’s vocal ensemble, Camerata. She also was the concert and chamber choir director at Norte Dame High School in West Haven and is the conductor of the Pioneer Valley Cappella Choir.

As an instructor of music, Flores will be responsible for teaching courses in all areas of music, participating in the activities of the Music department, and working with faculty on developing, revising and evaluating curricula. In addition, she will advise students and participate on college committees.

Flores is a graduate of the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music, with a doctor of musical arts degree in choral conducting and holds a master of music degree in piano performance from Manhattan School of Music, a master of musical arts degree in piano pedagogy from the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid, Spain, and a bachelor of musical arts in musical education from Superior Conservatory of Music in Zaragoza, Spain.

Raymond Kingston, of Manchester, is the new webmaster in the college’s Institutional Development division. Kingston is presently the principal designer and owner of Microspective Multimedia, a web development, print design and branding company and was formerly the regional graphic designer for the American Lung Association.

As the webmaster, Kingston will be responsible for assuring that the College’s website and affiliated portals meet user needs. Additionally, he will collaborate with internal web content developers, and act as a liaison between website users and content stakeholders to maintain the desired look and feel of the website, applying accessibility standards to the website, and assisting in assessment of website efficacy.

Kingston is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and holds a bachelor of arts degree in music.

Fatma Salman, of Orlando, FL, has joined MCC as an instructor of physics. Salman will be responsible for teaching courses in related physical sciences, and introductory, general and calculus-based physics. Additionally, she will develop, implement, revise and evaluate curricula in light of the National Science Education Standards with a goal of implementing technology into the teaching and learning of the course material, assess student performance, advise students, and serve on college-wide committees.

Salman was formerly a professor of physics at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fl, and an adjunct professor of physics for the University of Central Florida, in Orlando, Fl. She was also a member of the American Physical Society, the American Vacuum Society and the Electrochemical Society. Salman holds a Ph.D. and master of science degree in physics from the University of Central Florida. She also holds a bachelor of science degree in physics from Ain-Shams University in Cairo, Egypt.
