“Super Saturday” Offers Expanded Enrollment Services at MCC
Manchester, CT – August 7, 2013 . . . Just because it’s already August, that doesn’t mean that it’s too late to apply to a college, get accepted and receive financial aid. At Manchester Community College, there are still openings for freshmen (or transfer students) available for the 2013-14 academic year.
On Saturday, August 10 – Super Saturday – the college’s Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Bursar, and Advising and Counseling Center office will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be walk-in advising available from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. along with walk-in assessment testing until 11:30 a.m. Those students who arrive early will be able to apply, test and register for courses all in a single day. A deposit on the college’s payment plan, or approved financial aid, will be required at the time of registration.
“Increasingly, first-time students are struggling to plan and pay for college. At Manchester Community College, we want to make the process as easy, convenient and accessible as possible,” stated G. Duncan Harris, dean of Student Affairs. “Our staff is committed to opening offices late and on the weekends, and offering walk-in services, so that future students and those already admitted can complete the business of enrolling in college and focus, instead, on their educational goals and future.”
Student who haven’t already done so are encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, aka, the FAFSA. Federal assistance includes need-based programs such as Federal Pell Grants and Subsidized Stafford Loans. Student may also be eligible for work-study program. Students can submit the FAFSA online at Federal Student Aid; MCC’s school code is 001392.
Accepted students who have not yet taken the college’s required assessment tests can do so every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. On Thursday, August 15, assessment testing will be available until 6:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary for any of these sessions. Students must bring their Banner Student Identification Number and a Photo ID to the test. More information on assessment tests can be found on the college’s website.
Those students who have completed an assessment test, but who may need assistance in registering for classes, can walk into the Advising and Counseling Center any time between 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and on Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Again, no appointments are necessary,
Students of any age who possess the desire to pursue higher education are welcome at Manchester Community College. MCC is proud of its academic excellence, new facilities, flexible schedules, small classes, low tuition and faculty with both academic and “real world” credentials. The college offers over 60 programs, transfer options, financial aid and scholarships, as well as access to baccalaureate degrees through guaranteed admissions programs with several universities.
The main, park-like campus, which is easily accessible from I-84, is also the home of Great Path Academy, a middle college high school, serving grades 9-12. The college’s second location, the Manchester Community College Arts and Education Center, opened in downtown Manchester in 2012.
